Juniors, if a certain dubious person from a certain chinese orchestra near our premises tags on your blog out of the blue when you hardly know him, do not be alarmed. If he talk too voluntarily to you on MSN, do not fret as well. The only thing you ought to know, is:

SHY AWAY FROM DESPERATE PEOPLE
(AKA DESPOs)
You'll thank me one day!

Dearest YQP,

All of us know that our section had been plagued by conspiracies, by bad luck and senseless nonsense these very few days, or weeks. Sure, people might had been going around gossiping about any aspect of us, from physical to emotional. And all of us experienced the same pain, the same hurting pride when we are attacked upon when we had been so innocent.

Human beings can be extremely jealous. They would quite love to spoil our fun and joy together as a bonded section, as a family, when their groups or organizations are not as wonderful. Remember, whatever comes along, that might have sounded awful, felt awry... take it as a compliment and as a chance for improvement.

1) We are too bonded?
Sure. We are really too bonded, but instead of breaking up our beautiful bonds, we should spread our influence to the rest of those other groups who lack the bonds, who lack the force together.

2) We occupy too much space in M4-01 and deprive you of a room of your own?
Deepest apologies, due to the nature of our instruments, we really need the space. We are sorry if you are feeling squashed in that corner of your room, if you would like to change the space with us, feel free to approach any of us and we can perhaps reason it out, provided that you have the best reasons though.

3) We are not as good as any other group of individuals in the orchestra.
Thanks for reminding us, we know, but that doesn't equate that we are lousy. We are constantly improving upon ourselves and giving our very best to the orchestra. If you fail to see the efforts we make, I am sorry to say that there's nothing we can do. We are determined to prove ourselves strong.

No matter what, you bond your section first, before bonding the orchestra.

Yours Sincerely,
Chewy-Fei

- - -

We shall not post anything bad or any person or section. Why should we? (: We're nice, happy people. Instead, let's take this opportunity to learn how to mature like wine does, and to be gracious understanding individuals. If you'd made any nasty comment in reply to anything you'd heard, feel guilty but get over it quickly.

WE ROCK.

ok i just realise that i DO know yqp's email afterall :) so, for chewy's request of me blogging in yqp's blog.
i just went to watch a concert organised by East Zone chinese orchestra schools erm... development something (direct translation *smiles* my chinese is HORRIBLE).
so basically 5 primary and secondary school students from Centre Conservatory of Music (primary and secondary division) came to perform, at Young Musicians'Society Arts Centre (waterloo st)

and so the programme started

It was quite an eye opener for all of us there. It's quite different, the way they played their instruments (yangqin, pipa, erhu, guzheng and suona) and they are r-e-a-l-l-y good. Their ji ben gong and technical skills are marvelous. (and what do we lack... -.-) Look at them submerged into their music, unaware of the audience, just playing for the sake of playing... It's really nice.

oh btw, peiyan! the yangqin girl played huang tu qing :P and i think i'd died halfway trying to play like her. (and her teacher is HUANG HE... * drops jaw*)

anyway, oh yes, what i m saying is that going there was quite worth while. and it set me thinking. When everyone was accompanying the suona, they all had taifeng, which is good. Cos people tend to think that "oh, i am am accompanist, so this music is not really mine, so i don't need to put my heart and soul in to it." and that is actually very wrong. It's the effort of every performer on stage that leads to a successful performance. So we should give our best everytime during dazu. And we shoudn't think that "oh, a yangqin is barely audible during dazu. so it's ok if we play anyhow. Doesn't matter anyway."

ok, and i don't know what else to say. just that we should behave like a performer every time we go on stage, whether or not we are the soloist, or one of the many many people in an orchestra.

p.s. additional note! my BLOG is dead. :)

YQP UPDATE!

1) Today's celebration
2) YQP Tee
3) Upcoming performance updates etc.

1) Today's celebration of Guo Lao and Cassandra's birthdays!!

When Guo Lao stepped into M4-01, he was warmly greeted by, erh, a roar from Shawn. Then after much crapping, he talked to us about SYF and how he's doing in Switzerland (he's learning how to conduct European music by the way) and how he had slight depression, with the language barrier, diet issues and all that. Oh he also said that people who join CO in primary/secondary schools always stop in the end and it's different compared to those who learn western music because they play it when they're little kids but they still play it when they're reaaaally old.

He basically told us that we have to know what we value most, what we're passionate about and what our aims are, because it doesn't mean we can't be in a chinese orchestra just because we're working adults. "Singaporeans always say that they don't have a choice, but that is not true. We always have a choice to do what we want."

Oh oh anyway! We now have a section Friendster account (: I don't have a very stable internet connection, so I shall update a few photos and save the rest for Friendster.

(:

octopus frenzy.

guo lao somewhat looks like he's advertising some magic knife and cass is the model -.-
i see an uncanny similarity here............... o.O

chew fei has a quirky expression.

everyone lubb octopus.

2) YQP Tee

Okay everything is finalised except that Amanda, Xu Hao, Jaime, Joy, Yunge, Wei Shan, Ziyi and Jiang Chuan haven't passed me the money...

Anyway, as the printer doesn't have stock for yellow polo tee in "kids" size (32-42), he has to order so the printing time will be about 10 days. So if I go to the printer tomorrow, we'll be able to get the shirt next Friday.

Please try to pass the money to me by tomorrow's 2nd recess! Class 209 (:

3) Upcoming performance updates

I recently received an email from the organiser of the YFC charity concert at ACS Barker. Unfortunately, the concert response has not been as well received as expected, so it has been called off.

However, we will still be performing 龙腾虎跃for the pavillion opening on Aug 15. ET wants to practice that with us because Mrs Ee has specifically requested him to do so. Yeah and who's playing the paigu ah? o_O Speaking of which, I have no idea when the new paigus are coming (I only know Mrs Ee asked for quotation already) but we really need them soon. .___.

something random
At this time of the year, back in Secondary One. I was going through the worst stage of my CCA life. My lack of enthusiasm was complemented by detrimentally lousy skills, grumpy teachers and demanding seniors who all have high expectations set upon me.

I remembered going for CCA with such lacklustre eyes. And how I dreaded the "private lessons" with Guo Lao Shi when he would confine me to a biangu outside the YQ room, forcing me to practice on the 7 basic drum practices for the whole of the lesson with him, alone. Qu Lao Shi had the special ability to reduce me to tears though the most she did was lash another of her moodswings onto me and a couple more of unkind words with a increased decibel volume, and"tada" there I was, lesser than a lesser being. And defeated.

At this time of the year, back in Secondary Two. I was officially wacky, weird and voraciously passionate. My skills seemed to have improved drastically from last year, good enough to honour the grace of the timpani and how the teachers, especially Guo Lao Shi, now start to praise me instead of shooting my mistakes down. I got along with seniors better, and as tight-knit as a ball of yarn is, YQP is the love of my life.

As much as I had regretted many decisions in my life, I never regretted stepping on the pathways of YQP. What will I be doing in YQP during this time then? The future awaits me.

- - -

And I have such wonderful juniors! :D

GUO LAO CAME BACK TODAY! GUO LAO CAME BACK TODAY! GUO LAO CAME BACK TODAAAAAAAY!!!!

He's back from Switzerland for a holiday I think.
Though he just stopped by during dazu for a few minutes, the whole of daji was like, shocked.

Pei Yan: Eh eh eh. Guo lao! (Points behind her, guo lao breezes in through the door)
Daji: o_______o

Ok maybe that's a bit exaggerated. But now the daji members' right hands are "worth more than 9 million.... cos we shaked guo lao's hand!" And that's exaggerated too, because we're too eager to get 9 million from our insurance in case we lose our right hands, but that's bad cos we can't play any instrument properly.

Mohoho.

8 REASONS FOR LOVING YQP
1) We are the most enthusiastic section no matter in consideration of the instrument nature or or of the human characteristics. We are often seen giggling during dazu, "in our own world" as quoted from Mrs Ee, but really... we are just hyper (albeit too much) good girls.

2) We are the section with the widest age range but still keeping in contact! From shrimps like Rachel, Yunge, Sylvia, Yuka, Weishan and Jocelyn to the absolute shark like Yileng, all of whose ages I shall not reveal. Despite the apparent age gap, we remain a happy bunch.

3) We have a wide range of personalities in our section. Like the jumping cuttlefish, the satirical apple, the "act cute" baby, and even a extremely cool and handsome one like me. Be honoured okay. With the diverse culture, our section is especially dynamic (with no reference to forte or piano whatsoever).

4) We occupy the most space in M4-01, and literally in NYCO. Not the size of the population, but definitely the volume (note, it is not just the diameter) the space we and our revered instruments occupy. Do you dare to defy the fact that the timpani set can hold up to half of the tanbo section in its space?

5) Like normal human beings we have our ups and downs; highs and lows. By this I mean that our section does have VERY slack times but of course VERY VERY diligent moments too. I will be quick to add that we bounce back very quickly from the lazy eras though.

6) We are probably one of the most versatile groups of people in the whole orchestra. Yangqin and Percussion. Yangqin... and ... Percussion. What does this imply? Meaning we switch between percussion and yangqin (sometimes by choice, most of the time coerced *ahem*) during different songs! So do not fret when you see me whacking the yangqin like a biangu (if you ever do). I might just be having a spasm.

7) We are the icing sugar atop of the cake, also known as "hua long dian jing", a famous chinese proverb. Yangqin is always the backbone of the orchestra! Without the yangqin where do you get your mesmerizing melodies. And percussion, the big brothers of all the majestic pieces (like Tai Yang) and the gentlemen (sissies, oops no) of less noisy pieces (Mo Li Hua?). Without percussion you're like missing a rib off your chest.

8) We are family. And truly you guys make up my happiest moments in my Nanyang life.

7 RANDOM FACTS OF YQP
1) Shawn the prawn attends many practices with us though she graduated some seven months ago. In fact, she attends more practices than some of the other NYCO members I know of.
2) Only Xin Yi and I love (or rather, eat) cockles, out of the 25 members of YQP.
3) Rachel and Rachel are both Secondary Ones. One is snow-white while the other chao tar.
4) Our usual haunts during lunch breaks (holiday time) are Coronation Plaza (where the prawn and pomelo reside in) or POO(L)side, occasionally at KAP or Bukit Timah plaza.
5) We have had a President (Jiang Chuan!) and MGAs from our section. Teehee.
6) We have an unofficial treasurer in the section, namely Xu Hao this year!
7) We are often hit upon by surprise guests like spiders, cockroaches or even lizards in the Daji area of M4-01 or the YQ room alike.

6 MEMORABLE SONGS OF YQP
1) Ya Zi Ban Zui
2) Huang He Zhi Shui Tian Shang Lai
3) Long Teng Hu Yue
4) Lao Shu Qu Qin
5) Gu Shi
6) Gun He Tao

5 CATEGORIES OF YQP
1) Animals: Feline etc.?
2) Humans: Baby etc.?
3) Plants: Apple etc.?
4) Non-living beings: Pencil etc.?
5) And of course... weird things like X'mas X-ray. Don't know how to group her!

4 SYMBOLS OF YQP

3 STATES OF YQP (AKIN TO YOUR 3 STATES OF MATTER)
1) Solid: When we play we exude a certain charming aura with such confidence.
2) Liquid: When we are exhausted we lie on the ground to sleep (when you play percussion at the back of course). When you play yangqin the most you can do is press your face against the strings. Wonder if you ever tried that (or am planning to try?)
3) Gas: When we are elated we evaporate into annihilation! And sometimes random people like Shawn would fart.

2 INSTRUCTORS, 2 INSTRUMENTS & 2 HOMES!
Needless to say of course, we need the two instructors (ET & Qu Lao) for our two types of instruments and of course two different to contain the instruments.

25 people,
50 drum sticks / qin zhu,
100 hands and legs...
The one and only YQP.
