sorry! i'm supposed to post for this week's xiaozu and dazu... but i only remembered just now... i was reading romeo and juliet, it's so hard! i want to die already... *sigh*...

tuesday dazu:
we practised sha di er for the first one and a half hours and bali for the next one and a half hours. for sha di er i think our section is quite ok, and for yangqin, lin lao shi said that our 强弱对比 should be more. so we shall take note of that the next dazu. and for bali, i think may be we should prac a bit more on that, because some of us still tend to play wrongly sometimes... expecially me, i'll really try to play the timpani a lot louder the next time. jia you!

thursday xiaozu:
the sec twos spent the whole three hours practising yangqin. but qu lao was really in a good mood! she was soooooo patient man! so xiao zu was actually quite fun! we practised sha di er and a bit of jiang jun ling. she said she's going to ask us to play sha di er parts one by one next week, so we need to prac sha di er more. sorry, can somebody post about storm warning and dance?

friday dazu:
we practised diyi and taiyang finally! for diyierhu, i think yangqin need to practise the last page more, cos we are still not very very 熟练yet. and the rest are okay i think... and for taiyang! haha. i was sooooo nervous, cos we haven't been playing it for such a long time! but it turned out to be better than i expected... i was so scared that the other sections forgot how to play it... haha. but anyways, jiayou for taiyang!!! prac more!!!

saturday xiaozu:

所以自己喜欢what we are playing, 很重要。愿秦王点兵更上一层楼!

morning circle:
a lot of people are not coming down to morning circle... chew fei said that we can do whatever we want during morning circle, so if you have homework, you can also bring down and do. so i hope that more people can come down for morning circle.

lunch prac:
chew fei said that from now on, 每个人都必须必须必须要来lunch prac. no excuse is valid. 做功课,project等理由一律无效。总而言之,每个人都要来lunch prac.

本小姐就说到这里,大家散会!呵呵~ (无视我吧。我现在正在发神经当中。。。)

hello hello hello hello rachel here!!

update for the last 2 weeks:

10th June, Tuesday:
VOTING!!! or something like voting. we had to write down nominees for the different posts and put it into a bag. i hard a hard time shuffling the names around /: then it was Mrs Ee's dazu. as usual, it was di yi er hu, but its getting better though! It's starting to sound more and more like a piece which can be presented on stage LOL. and we were pia-ing tribal beats in the afternoon. for comps. tribal beats is fun wheeee (oops i cannot really remember the details ><)

12 June, Thursday:
INTERVIEWS!!

screams. i totally screwed mine eek eek. oh right, and we were asked what perc instrument we wanted to be, cass said xylo, xinyi said mu yu, i said yun luo, yunge said pai gu, yuka said glock, then weishan said xylo. haha for the exact reasons go and ask the people. LOL

and while the interviews were going on, the CO was having dazu with lin lao shi.  MENG ZHI BALI IS VERY VERY VERY VERY CUTE xD ok but dazu that day wasnt exactly productive 'cause everyone was very distracted by the interviews. and yqp was especially noisy. and we werent just distracted by the interviews, the section was also very worried about chewfei. 'cause she feeling very unwell.  then yunge accompanied her to the doctor at coro, and after the two of them came back, they sat down at the benches near the lift and.. sigh ):

lunch cum celebration for june babies but because of SOMEONE *ahem* xinyi knew about our plans. lol. hah SOMEONE don't worry 'cause no one blames you, 'cause well i guess we had fun too. but then, i forgot the bring the presents so yea. lol. and CHAN XIN YI WAS SO MEAN 'CAUSE SHE DIDN'T WANT TO COOPERATE. eeyyyer xinyi you always like that one lor -.- ahhwells in the end i made her stay upstairs with cass and wendy [wendy came back from UK whee and brought back alot of tidbits haha] while weishan and jaime went to buy food. the rest that happened was sort of er anti-climax so haha nevermind. xD

anywayyyy the cakes that chewfei bought we all very very very very cute!!!

jaime took the ppg one, weishan took tom cat, then xinyi took James. and the best thing was, no one realised it was james [everyone thought it was thomas] until i pointed out. haha xD

yqp!! <3
it was quite sad that the whole section wasn't there though. ahhwells. we shall all have fun together at the next party. wheeee xD

credits to pei er for the camera! right and i think she has sent the photos to everyone right? i've uploaded them to our Photobucket too (:

xiaozu was tribal all the wayyy... its comps on sunday mahh. of course must chiong lah.

15th June, Sunday
DRUMZOUT!!!

lol what a gay colour. haha though we didnt win, i think all had fun drawing all over our forearms, drinking bubble tea, crapping.... and of course playing tribal together xD and i know yuka and yunge had alot of fun chatting with mrs ee hahahahahaha xD ahhwells. lets all now jiayou for concert!! (:

17th June, Tuesday
dazu in the morning with linlao, we played SHA DI ER WHEEE though it was a bit sad that at yangqin there was only me and yuka. well generally that day yqp was quite pathetic lah. there were only 5 of us there for dazu : jaime, cass, yuka, weishan, me. everyone else was either still at camp or at MOECO camp. ahwhells.

xiaozu was generally quite pathetic too. i mean, with the few of us plus pei er, what could he do ><  i guess the most productive thing that day was still xiaozu 'cause there was a whole 45mins spent on my semi-quaver rests. i need to get a DIGITAL metronome ):

18th June, Wednesday
it was dazu all the way with mrs ee. then she did diyi for the whole morning and half of the afternon. second half of the afternoon was on shan jian. and yuka do you know, you are damn pro!! xD anyway, i suggest, we put aside another day for tuning, seriously ><>

19th June, Thursday
xiaozu in the morning! cass came up with a timetable and we sort of followed that for prac (: started off with bali, and yea for me it was another one-to-one. but then i think i really imrpved alot, haha at least my notes that come after semi-quaver rests are getting mroe and more accurate, i think. me and cass and yuka need to coordinate more though. jiayou!! then ET went on to shan jian and was prac-ing with weishan and jaime. then me and cass were amusing ourselves with jap phrases hahaha xD after shan jian was storm warning, which toh lao praced with jaime and pei er. then to save ourselves from boredom, cass and weishan and yuka and me started playing crazy pieces [made crazy 'cause of yuka and weishan's gan3 pai1] like xi xun. hahaha (: i guess the perc people next time will really miss the yangqin. LOL. then ET did a bit of qin wang and changed alot of things. alot of things. and i dont really like the changes ):

dazu in the afternoon was with linlao. then he did bali first. my exciting part was sort of screwed 'cause i cant seem to land accurately after the quaver rest. eek. but i refused to change the score even though lin lao suggested. i know im able to do it, so im not going to change the score, no way man. but overall the piece was quite ok, other than the fact that the yangqins were freaking outta tune. the suonas and xianyue and cellobass too. sighhh and because of the tuning, sha di er sort sucked that day because everything sounded wrong. and i wish the guzheng player can be more kai1 fang4, 'cause she's not doing her gua1 zou4 properly, and im quite bothered by it. argh dont ask me why /: and that bloody C sharp on the guzheng was very very off. yuckkk. for daji there was nothing much to say, 'cause there was only cass and weishan and jaime at daji. yangqin ar, there are quite a lot of changes. but nevermind, can manage. haha (:

oh right did i mention, for the whole week, for every day, there were only 5 people present for each practice, and that was only half the section. so damn sad lahh ): but haiya nevermind lah. 'cause when school reopens  everyone will be there again. YAYE. oh right. CHEWY!! CAN WE HAVE MORNING CIRCLE ON MONDAY?? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE?!?!?!? (:

anyway, the sec 2s are very sorry for the delay ><

rachel! (:

i went Googling about DrumZout just now, and found out that on Sunday, we will be competing against: (in no particular order)
1. West Spring Sec
2. Bukit Panjang Government High
3. Canberra Sec
4. ITE Central
5. Zheng Hua Sec
6. and one other school which i couldnt find

so including us, altogether there are 7 finalists. and actually right, as long as we dont screw TBSS, we stand a very high chance of winning!!

Information about the committee interviews!

Interview Dates:
12/06/08, Thursday and 17/06/08, Tuesday
Time: Practice sessions
Venue: Music Lab

Order of sections by request of SLs, and order of members are by the classes and levels.

Yangqin Percussion (1st section to get interviewed)
Foo Yun Shuen Cassandra
Wendy Yue
Chan Xin Yi
Sylvia Tang Xiu Wei
Tan Rui Qi Rachel
Goh Xiao You Yuka
Guo Yunge
Rachel Lim Wei Shan

Yep, our section beats the record by having 100% of our members as nominees :D

Oh and, please don't be misconcepted that we, Yangqin and Percussion, will be completely unrelated after the new committee has been selected. (After all, there is a Chinese saying that goes 藕断丝连, yes?) We will continue existing (and operating) as YQP! The only difference is that each person will have a 'major'.

For example, when the Yangqin 'specialists' do not have practice, they can always join Percussion for sectional practice! However, if you are needed during sectionals, you are obligated to go for it (just like what we're currently doing). Also, you will play your 'major' instrument during 大组unless there is a lack of players on either side. In any case, both SLs will work closely (which brings us to the next point) and continue to ensure that YQP will not segregate into groups because of their 'major'.

The rationale behind having 2 SLs is to increase efficiency with minimal effort. Unlike other sections, YQP has 2 instructors and contrary to popular belief, 2 very different instruments to master. Therefore, our SL would be doing double the work in terms of organisation as compared to other SLs.

So to conclude, YQP WILL NOT BECOME TWO SEPARATE ORGANISATIONS! Please do not worry about losing your sectionmates because you won't! (:

Okay that's all! Thank you for reading. JIAYOU FOR THIS SUNDAY!

right! IM SORRY i didnt know that was HARRY and that was JIANG CHUAN!! i totally forgot what they look like. SORRYY!! yea but jiang chuan was pro xD haha. and harry's first timer so. OKAY no wonder. haha.

Thursday's dazu (lin lao shi)
for this dazu we did pure sha di er and i must say it actually sounds quite nice =D esp the cello part when sha di er died and they're supposed to 有气无力 or 无气无力 and jian qiang (i dont know which one la but the second one makes more sense but the first one sounds more familar =.=) right. but the feel was there. as in, im nt sure if it's the music, the instrument or they way they play it i thought it really brought out the after-war kinda feel. OH and timpani plus crash cymbols brought out that. smokey smokey feel as well! haha! YES so sha di er SOUNDED NICE PPL!! YAY CLAPCLAP continue adding oil!

for yangqin, i think we improved quite abit cause i remember last time we could only play what. at most one note =.= then we'd get lost. but now we can actually follow through the whole song (with abit of mistakes here and there but its passable!) so it's an achievement! yay! but then one point to note. i think we've gotta be neater esp for the 带着眼泪的歌 part. yea cause all the luns sometimes makes it sound very luan and cause that part features tanbo so we have to be neat and tidy and nice!! =D

(for mrs ee's dazu i forgot to ask. i shall ask THEN post about it xD yup!)

Friday's 补课 with qulao:
okay it was quite. fun i guess. LOL. cause it was. just. pracing jiang jun ling. and we tuned and oiled the yangqins till they're tuned and the whole m402 is oily!! YAY! oh and then. uhhhh. yeayea i think our. how to say. skill? in YQ has improved as well because the 音色 when we play is no longer soft and fuzzy but loud and. ringy. ya! so. YES it's an improvement! also, i think rachel's side-reading has improved alot! because she only learned YQ for about a year and she can SIDE READ O.O CLAP PEOPLE dont u find it pro. i couldnt even side read when i was in p school la. lol. yeap. oh yea and two sentences to take away for the lesson

强而不躁
弱而不虚

that's all! =) BYEBYE

HEY!! ahahaha okay i shall post about hcco concert and tuesday's dazu plus xiaozu first cause otherwise forgetful me would forget! yes! i will crap cause im feeling sian. right okay on with the important stuffs xD

HCCO concert
because there isnt any feasible eating areas near SCH, so chewfei decided we shuld all meet at 6.45 at SCH to go look for seniors =D so once we reached, yuka went around slamming cards into our faces (but after that i helped her slam cards into other ppl's faces =D) and going "CHOOSE A MARKER!" and we all started writing well wishes on cards for felicia, ziyi and jiang chuan! so then after all that, we went in to sit and yuka and i chopped like. 7 seats for shawn and her section and im guessing we looked very weird cause ppl STARED at us. like this O.O loll. when the bell rang we got anxious and yuka ran out to look for shawn and her late section and she came back with no shawn!! =( but after awhile shawn turned up with. her GANG of section mates LOL!! i like that word. GANG. sounds so. gangly. LOL. right okay yesh so then i sat between yuka and joy. and the concert started! the emcees wore dresses O.o loll but they looked pretty.

so first song they played was 天山盛会 which i thought was nice! i thought it was impressive cause since the song's supposed to depict or symbolize this festival on some mountain where chinese congregate to. celebrate? lol yea! and the song really brought out the. festiveness of it all xD the timpanist was...=.= as in, comparatively, i thought he plays with NO taifeng at all. or rather. VERY LITTLE taifeng. yea. i dont know i may be wrong. but thats what i thought because other than him, the whole perc had ALOT of taifeng. like felicia and ziyi when they played the paigu and this girl when she played the muyu. it really looked nice la even my MOM said so lol!

second song was 水墨气韵. no offence i thought it was quite long....and dreary. loll. the emcees said something like the song was divided into 3 sections but i only remember the first section was peaceful and. long. yea. and then according to the booklet, "the second features the liveliness of a group of people and the third is characterized by the recurring theme of the charm of nature". yesh. i realised i could refer to the booklet LOL. so for the first song, the mountain's called Mt. Tian. (天山) and the chinese "minority tribes congregate to dance the night away". yes. LOL. right and we noticed this. yangqin player. male. and the yangqin looked like a toy in front of him. hahaha so i shant say anymore cause. it's quite mean LOL. right im sorry. no offence. but he plays well haha u can tell he really. enjoys the music and. uh. sort of 陶醉在音乐里. so i guess we should learn from him? cause he has the qulao taifeng too! just that his isnt vertical but horizontal. yea.

next is the xianyue ensemble with the song Czardas. we saw randy playing. yea. and the song i remembered some parts were VERY fast and the amazing thing is. amazing and IMPRESSIVE thing, the erhu ppl played and it sounded like ONE erhu. even for the fastfast part. seriously. i was VERY impressed. haha. they either have alot of mo qi, or they have a very good sense of rhythm and tempo in them. yeap. first part was all played by randy la and that part was slow. sort of like a free tempo part. yesh! overall it was an impressive piece because of how neat and fast it was

fourth song's the tanbo ensemble with the song 雨后庭院. i thought it was a nice song haha. i cant remember much about this song so i shall cope from the booklet =) "This piece depicts the pituresque scene at the courtyard after the rain. It starts by describing the tranquility of the courtyard before building up to end on a high note". RIGHT i remembered there were quite a number of parts whereby each instrument solo-ed. like the liuqin. i remember liuqin solo-ed for one part of the song haha. yea. overall the song was nice =)

fifth song's a Dizi Concerto called 走西口.the dizi soloist was very good...and the whole orchestra played well together with the soloist =) again i cant remember anything distinct about this song. loll. according to the booklet, its supposed to tell a story of a newly wedded couple in the Qing dynasty who was forced to separate due to poverty, depicting their emotional struggle. i seriously cant remember how the song went so. i shall not dwell on this song =D cause there are more interesting ones like DAJI PIECE!! WHEE!

-interval- as usual we highed around until interval's over. LOL.

next song's the liuqin concerto called 江月琴声. yuka thought that the liuqin player was very loud but my experience was that when i focused on other sections like cellobass, yangqing, perc then erhu..i totally forgot that it was a solo piece. as in, i couldnt really tell that he was supposed to be solo-ing. and i realise that point's not really valid because for certain parts of the song, the solo-ist is supposed to blend with the orchestra and not being able to hear him would mean that its good! haha so yes. just to bring out a point even if its. abit. invalid =p lolll like i said i would crap. but again, the liuqin player was good la haha

next! ssabollec ensemble xD haha called Adios Nonino. so cute la the name. nonino. try saying it FAST. nonino! okay anyway! hahahaha. we saaw yiling! yes! vague impression of the song...RIGHT i liked the song! the melody was SUPER nice but according to the booklet, its supposed to be sad..aw ok fine i like sad songs?? haha. right. but the song was really nice cause the dynamics were expressed very pro-ly so it seems full of. 感情. booklet says "The song includes a long melodic fragment, where an anguished lament underlies. The restrained weeping and pain of Piazzolla is also expressed in this sad passage". yup! but it was a nicenice song!! with a cute name! nonino!

eighth song would be...DRUMROLL......BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM...PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE 老鼠娶亲!!!! IT'S SUCH A CUTE AND ANIMATED SONG!! even their entrance was cute la! they acted like mice and bent their backs and tiptoed in on stage. this guy played the muyu and according to the dynamics of what he played, the "mice" stopped and ran, stopped and ran! AHAHAHA SO CUTE RIGHT! then when the song started, ziyi was playing the paigu and she seemed to be leading the group in the song like how chewfei leads us in qinwang. and i remember the song has quite a lot of question and answer like parts. lik. paigu plays. then the rest follows. the paigu plays again. yea! felicia was playing dagu. oh and we saw our dear bian gus there too! hahaha. right and this girl was playing the pai ban and i thought she played it well cause when she played, it doesnt seem like she's lagging behind or anything. she's right on the beat even thought the pai ban produces two CLACKS with one hit. that time mrs ee's comments to how i played was that i seemed to be lagging behind. so thats something i shuld notice i guess. oh and the 4 people playing dagu and bian gus right, they played the drum very interestingly. they were like. scratching the drum's surface with the tips of the sticks. like. i dont know how to describe lol but it was interesting! haha so overall. IT WAS CUTE!

next song was an orchestra piece called 故都风情. i really cannot remember this tune lol but it was good la. at least it wasnt boring xD

last song 大地回春 was really good too! apparently it was a gold with honours piece. hahaha yeap so OBVIOUSLY it has its standards. right. again. i cant really remember this song. lolll sry!! =(

encore was so cute. i forgot the name of the song but it's some classic song la. hahahaha!! but it was good. which overall means that hcco (jc) is supersuper pro and that NYCO shall be AS PRO FOR ITS UPCOMING CONCERT!! JIAYOU!!

Tuesday's dazu
mainly di yi er hu. very intensive di yi practice lol mrs ee kept repeating the parts which she felt was not up to standard but when the whole song was played once through. i really could hear the improvement la as compared to what it used to be. previously we couldnt even reach the end of the song without having so much mess that we have to stop. now we can and it isnt even THAT messy. SO CLAPS FOR NYCO! JIAYOU SOMEMORE OKAY!!!! right and joy's tambourine. HAHA jiayou joy xD yangqin ppl improved as well cause when i peeked thru the drums and looked at the sticks playing on the yangqin. they were following the song VERY WELL and no mistakes at all for that part. be it luck or skill. there must be an amount of practice behind this dazu that leads to the yangqin ppl playing so well. GOOD JOB!

Tuesday's xiaozu
we prac-ed with qulao and she was VERY fierce can. we did sha di er and apparently. we're very bad and 不熟练 so we must jiayou! prac harder! and play it with all the emotions and 眼泪s u can muster!! jiayoujiayou! andd shan jian was fine. qulao was quite pleased with. our part. hahaha! yay! xD so she did dynamics with us and taifeng as well. LOL. yeap!

okay. time for homework. havefun reading this super loooong and crappy post!!!!
