HELLO ALL! THIS IS A SHORT CONCERT REVIEW AS REQUESTED BY PHANG CHEW FEI.
I'm sure many of you are disappointed about not being able to attend Rhapsodies of Spring. Well I'm here to fill you in about what happened during the concert! Yes I attended (so did Pei Yan!) and I was lucky enough to get the $88 tickets for free! (: Long story.
So the concert started off with 龙腾虎跃! A lot of parts were modified, especially the paigu solo (nowhere near the one we know) but still, Song Yi Bo is really pro! After than was 春and another song I can't remember ._. Then there was all the 958 DJs and Kit Chan stuff, and ended with 太阳!
It was a LOT faster than our version, really. Especially allegro (nearing 165 bpm). Even menno mosso was really fast. The paigu soloist (Song Yi Bo, female percussionist from China, trained from age 7) played yunluo too, and the main timpanist (Tan Loke Chuah, who was percussion principal while Guo Lao was away) played mallets as well. A few wrong notes here and there didn't allow much fluency (speed's part to blame), but generally it was quite good! Oh and in case you're really
concerned about how your beloved instructors did, they did pretty well.
She definitely did not lack flair (as USUAL) and
he can roll on bass drum with traditional grip o_o
Okay I can't think of any other interesting/important details. That ends my review. Tata.

And finally the day had passed transiently with the stream of anxiety well kept within. Cockroach in her very exponential of a philosophical mood sincerely thanks the entire section Why Kill Pee which had contributed much into making today a great success, if not even an enjoyable process too. Cockroach would also seize this opportunity to hereby settle a few administrative matters (soon be soon, pass be pass, this will pass soon):
1) SCO Spring Rhapsodies Concert: The one your beloved gay ET and lovely stunning QLS is performing in. So would I confirm that everybody will be attending this extremely exciting concert at the Singapore Conference Hall at 8pm after our Combined practice on Friday 26th Saturday 2008? Tickets are priced at $15 or $20. I would recommend to get the $20 tickets in order to obtain a better view of the orchestra. Nevertheless, I had decided to engage the help of these people to help me disseminate and confirm this information with their same-level peers namely Sylvia for the Secondary Twos, Wendy for the Secondary Threes and Joy for the Secondary Fours. Will these honoured chosen ones please confirm with me the details by 10pm on Saturday (today)? Thank you you three, you shall be blessed. *blesses you* I will make the event compulsory for all YQP members since there is a new requirement for all NYCO members to attend at least three concerts a year. Also, this will be counted as a section outing (with dinner too)! 2) Lunch practices for YQP: Alas, I know life is hard and we are all busy with other commitments. But this is life, and we must make the best of it. The Yangqin dudettes will be strongly encouraged to tune the majestic instruments you play on since you had proved yourselves to be rather capable in the versing of the piece. Don't blame me, this is life. Percussionists, you will learn that it will help you some time some day! In the event that I am not here, seniors please do take over my responsiblities and guide whenever necessary. More will be elaborated on when the first lunch practice comes. Do not be late, arrive punctually for not more than ten minutes late, and not without a valid reason.3) NYCO Jacket, NYCO Jackfruit, NYCO Jackpot: Like Sheila had requested during Dazu, please inform me of your choices for the NYCO jacket by Saturday 10pm through SMS, MSN or even email.
a. Design (NYCO Logo or "Yue")
b. Embroidery VS Printed (fully printed OR logoprinted designembroidered OR designprinted logoembroidered OR fully embroidered)
c. Any other constructive suggestions.
That is about all. Friday was a good day no doubt exhausting (all the muscle building from the carrying of instruments!). Continue with the drive for Tai Yang, YQP, we can do it! We will show the world that we can be cool, shuai and mesmerizing (like the incredulous Chewy Shuai-Ge)no matter playing Yangqin or Percussion. We will also flail our arms around in full parade of the GL and QL "taifeng" spirit. Not really ET, because he does way gay-er stuff.
Okay till then, farewell!

Cockroach presents to you some interesting photos!
Funky ET with a bowl-head hairstyle, when he was (way) younger.
Guo Lao Shi looks massively "Jackie Chan". Gongfu on the drums whooo...
Xin Yi is a datou. Literally.
Classic photo. Spot your seniors! (E.g. Benita when she was innocent)
Another classic photo. When Cass has long flowy hair, Xin Yi has long hair and Wendy has a ponytail! Jamma goes gay with a purple shirt! Haha.
Youthful young ones. Okay Yuka, what's so funny! Haha.
Yours truly during CO Camp. Looking at this now I feel spooked.
Want to see more photos and perhaps contribute to the collection of YQP photos?
Log on to the YQP photobucket account. (Haha this sounds like the MOCCA advertisement)

Yo! Thanks Weasel for taking the initiative to blog (since you hadn't for such a long time! Haha!) I can't tag as well! Weird! Okay let me get on to business then...
1) We have a junior who has had background in percussion in primary school (she DSAed in through academics) joining us for Sectionals starting from tomorrow. Do welcome her!
2) Helping to advertise a concert here:
Swiss Cottage Chinese Orchestra Concert,
23rd March, Sunday (hints, this is one day after my birthday! heh heh heh)Republic Polytechnic Auditorium, Woodlands
"About 14 songs: such as qing dian, naodao alilang, jiang jun ling, su bei feng qing, and alot of sectionals plus a dizi duet"3) Joy, Jocelyn and Weishan! Hui Bao for you will either be this Friday or next Friday before dazu starts. Please be ready and jiayou (:
4) This Friday during Sec1 PTM, percussion will be required to perform a piece (long story, ask me or Xin Yi about it). We have decided to play Gun He Tao! This will be applicable to Cuttlefish, Jackpot, X-Ray and Weasel! Yeah so take note! (: More details will be released tomorrow.
5) Xin Yi and I came up with a section survey! Still not sure about how to give it out, but please ask me about it when you see me online so maybe you can do it online instead. If not I can print it out too. This will be done latest next week.
6) CNY Taiyang at the hall. Judging from the amount of people now, we can expect to play our music off the stage. Thus we will be trying out the space and orchestral arrangement at the hall next Friday, probably at 3pm. Not confirmed yet, but just telling you guys ahead! Our instrument ban-ning will be a biggg problem! x_x
7) Check out the photobucket account for YQP if you hadn't! Put all your pictures there and we'll get to see them all!
8) Time to think of a new YQP shirt design or colour etc. The new juniors will be coming in and hopefully they get to don the section shirt too!
9) Section party soon. Will tell you all in person x)
10) Clean-up tomorrow had been shifted to next week because a lot of people couldn't make it!
Shuai Cockroach truly,
Handsome, cool but weary, x_x
