Wednesday, June 20, 2007 Hello, I found another shirt printer who charges more but has shirts of better colour and quality (Velocity's yellow shirts aren't really that yellow o_O). The company's Wah Mee Silk Screen. Track and Field had their shirts printed there so you can check the standard.
For 20 pieces Crew neck: $12/pc Polo: $17/pc
For 30 pieces Crew neck: $11/pc Polo: $16.50
Material 100% cotton for crew neck and 'honeycomb' cotton (something like the old PE shirt) for polo shirt.
Additional cost per shirt -Printing individual names: $3.00 (for 1-1.2 cm in height) or $5.00 (for 1.5-5 cm in height) -Printing on sleeves or other parts of the shirt
Printing time If they have stock for the shirts it takes about 3-5 days, if not about 1 week.
I have relatives who are regulars and I heard you can toggle the price quite a lot, so it's another possible choice. (:
Benita and I went to the printing shop at Velocity today, and the guy said for yellow tees, the prices were:
If we print 20 pieces
Crew neck: $14/pc
Polo: $18/pc
If we print 30 pieces
Crew neck: $11/pc
Polo: $15/pc
I have checked the quality of the printing. It's quite acceptable, slightly above average. But I've never had any tees printed with them before, so I'm not sure about the 'lifespan' of the printing.
Firstly we need to decide whether we want a crew neck or polo tee. Crew neck is definitely the cheaper alternative, but if we print around 25 shirts we'll get a better discount for polo. After that we'll get the sizes, collect money and finally order. The shirt should be done in about a week.
Oh and in order to save cost, the design will be printed only in black. In other words all the white parts in the design will just appear yellow. Unless there is any violent objection, that is.
Tomorrow, I will walk into M4-01 like as if I had just squashed 300 spiders in one sitting. Triumphant! In case you don't identify with my euphoria, do view the YouTube video posted by Xmas X-ray not too long ago. Dunman High Chinese Orchestra with the honourable THE SUN proudly conducted by Guo Lao.
And imagine, YQP will be creating such a stir not too much later, with percussion creating storms at the back of the room (hopefully all cleaned and nice). And finally, no more whimsical feminine pieces like MOLIHUA (no offense meant) to exploit me of my little bit left of feminity. And for the first time percussion will be suns in disguise, going around all rah-rah and strong and muscular, no matter whether you're flapping your arms about swashing on your paigu, training your arm muscles holding the feather-light dabo, or even playing the xylophone with a few hundred bars of quavers, semiquavers, demisemiquavers, hemidemisemiquavers all memorised in your large brains.
This will also be a great milestone in YQP history when all percussion instruments actually have solos to each of their own! Not only that, you all will train so hard you will have rock-hard abs and stone-firm arm muscles like mine, finally! And how all of our seniors of 16 to 21 will be always be supporting us, guiding us all along, and sharing in our glories.
These seniors will tell you that the first step in achieving success will be to: Walk into M4-01 like as you had just squashed 300 extra-terresterials in one sitting. Triumphant!
Today, YQP was commended by Mrs Ee because we were "the first batch in many many years to be so initiative" to have an AREA CLEAN-UP! Which was of course suggested by the MGA.
Pictures and spiders galore! There were many, uh, unusual findings among the piles.
Big Bird toothbrush with towels and cymbal cases in a box.
Sweepers sweeping spiders. Pamela in a somewhat awkward position.
Sorting mallets and other junk.
Windows are open!! YQP irritates poor labourer who was working on the pavilion. "HELLO!!!! *CRASHES CYMBALS/DA BO*"
The discriminated instruments. Awww. We might sell the vibes to some recycling company so they'll pay us for the metal.
太阳is not a very pleasant song to play especially with timpani/paigu, despite its somewhat catchy tune.
Oh and one more thing, I just found out that Pearly is actually the guzheng teacher. In other words, this very blog is how she found out about ET, etc. o________o
Ah, what a pity that the J2s couldn't be there :( Probably too busy mugging block tests. But many thanks to those who came, and to all who shared in the gift of icing sugar, brand's essence of chicken, nachos, lemons and oranges - all lovingly wrapped by shawn and felicia in a box reminiscent of a bomb. I made my way home safely though, no security checks from the mrt people :)
And yes, I'm waiting till next Dec for the Changi Village one. Maybe next time we'll other slightly more cooked cockles, more stingrays for benita, lots of carrot cake for shawn too :)
I love love love nyco yqp. After so many years there's this part of me that still belongs there, to that little room in M4-02 and to all my juniors, who will be playing tai yang next year.
Yileng. (oh yes, chewfei, i can't upload photos to my comp. something's wrong. next cs practice you come find me and i'll transfer the photo to you)

Just one day, do grab the opportunity to screen through the Tai Yang full scores, whether in detail or not. Today while on the MRT ride home, I grasped every second on my finger with my gaze just fixated on those tiny curves, lines and notations on the mildy tattered scores. I feel the thorough exhilaration in me; so some call it adrenaline. The energy of these scores, believe it or not, actualized waves of memories and experiences I had last year, when YQP was playing Gu Shi. There was a rustic, rather pleasant semblance to it.
And then I recalled how our section was always very bonded, be them little activities like section outings, section lunches in between practices, or more serious matters like NYCO Concert or of course the biennal SYF Central Judging. To tell you the truth, our section was not always very bonded. To be precise, YQP was only bonded as certain batches at some points of time. Remember those days when you look at your seniors with such awe (or gore), always wondering why they were always in loop of all events going on, when you struggle to stay as a good junior without igniting the furies of them all? Remember those days when you glance upon your juniors with such repulsion, revulsion, repugnance, wondering what they were doing flapping their arms over the yangqins not using their wrists at all though repeatedly told?
Maybe you didn't encounter such scenarios in the whole of your YQP life, or rather as of now. But I had, have, and am to go through such negativity as I continue into the last two years of my gruelling YQP journey. However, one significant event will shape our section much, and that is the playing of Tai Yang as one section with ages spanning 14 to 19. Why do I say that? In case you do not know what had been going on, we will be inviting YQP seniors (who had graduated) Shawn, Ziyi, Felicia, Jiang Chuan, Daphne and Ying Hui back to help with Tai Yang percussion parts.
You may ask why such severity and formality is applied as I write this for you. It might not be as critical as SYF, and certainly not determining of all your results in YQP, but think of it: Has Daji ever been so highlighted upon in the whole of your YQP life? Not that of mine certainly. Tai Yang. Famous for its fame; it is a percussion concerto to let a percussion section come to life from its usually dead resume. So while we must be serious about it, we must not forget about the fun bits that make the YQP camaraderie! Of course there will be no worries attached to this issue since YQP is quite a self-entertaining group afterall. I am sure we will all have fun anytime, anyplace.
Here's a practical action plan: Practice (hard, right, sufficiently) Admire each other (in a friendly way and bond as a section no matter junior/senior) Inculcate good habits (wahaha) Grace mistakes (and strive for the better) Utilise time (and be a good time keeper!)
And you will be on your way to be an excellent YQP member! Whee. :D
Tuesday, June 05, 2007 Hello YQP!! Here's an update regarding our charity performance (another one, not Chew Fei's)...
1) Our performance is the FIRST item for the concert. (: But the thing is we got to ask Mrs Ee if we can borrow the drums for the concert. We are performing on 27 July 2007, Friday. The concert will start at 7pm, and it'll end maybe around 9pm? Transport should be provided.
2) There is a record album, and our recording will be the FIRST track. We need to record it before the June holidays end, as soon as possible. If we can't record it in school we'll need to move them to some other recording studio so preferably we use the school's music studio to record or something. So we need to get one of the music teachers' permission.
Sunday, June 03, 2007 Firstly, an advertisement to be done:
Hello!
We are a Secondary Three student based fund-raising group Save-n'07 from Nanyang Girls' High School, comprising Wong Lai Weng, Ester Cheang, Elise Tan and Phang Chew Fei. Our fund-raising project is officially funded and supported by the Citibank-YMCA Youth For Causes 2007 (Under 16 Catergory). We aim to raise a total amount of $50,000 for Club Rainbow ( Singapore) organization through a series of events involving street sales, organized talks in schools, and also an inaugural Chinese Orchestra concert. Club Rainbow (Singapore) is a non-profit organization especially offering financial and emotional assistance to chronically ill children and teenagers.
Through these events, we aim to spread awareness about young children suffering from chronic or life-threatening illnesses, to spread awareness of the emotional and financial help the children from Club Rainbow need, to spread awareness of the emotional and financial help Club Rainbow provides and most importantly to make a change in the children's lives.
Henceforth we would like to appeal for volunteers to aid in the street sales event to be held at the Orchard area on the following dates 9th June 07, Saturday (9a.m. - 1p.m. / 2p.m-6p.m.) 10th June 07, Sunday (9a.m. - 1p.m. / 2p.m.-6p.m.) 16th June 07, Saturday (9a.m. -1p.m. / 2p.m.-6p.m.) 17th June 07, Sunday ( 9a.m. -1p.m. / 2p.m.-6p.m. As a large portion of our funds raised will obtained through street sales, it is extremely important to have enough volunteers to aid in this major aspect of the project. We will be providing beautiful Club Rainbow collar pins as well as exquisite merchandise, produced by Art Elective Programme students of Nanyang Girls' High School, for the sales.
It is useful to note that each street sales session lasts for four hours, and all volunteers will be awarded CIP hours in reward for their kind services. For every hour that you have volunteered your services with us for, you will receive one hour worth of CIP hours.
Once again we sincerely appeal for your kind help in this event. Even a single little deed as such can change the lives of the ill children under Club Rainbow ( Singapore). We would genuinely appreciate your reply to this email. If you are interested in volunteering your services with us, please do reply with your NAME, NRIC NUMBER, CONTACT NUMBER, EMAIL ADDRESS, AGE, SCHOOL and DATES AVAILABLE, or any other specificities of your school CIP system that might require our special attention. This is to facilitate in the better documentation of volunteer details. If you are, however, not too keen on the event, we will like to thank you for your time too.
PS: All proceeds go to our adopted Club Rainbow (Singapore). P lease help forward and disseminate this message to your friends so as to help promote our cause further!
